At the beginning of my term as President of the ENEA, I want to take the opportunity to thank you all for the confidence that you have placed in me. During the next two years, I promise to do my utmost to help strengthen and grow our Association. On a personal note, the ENEA has been my scientific “home” for more than a quarter of a century, first joining as a Member in 1986, serving as Secretary and organising the 14th ENEA Congress. It has been a great pleasure to have witnessed the growth and development of the ENEA into what it is today, a unique international group of like-minded colleagues working in one of the most complex and exciting fields of science.
I am taking over from the recent Past-President, Dr. Ilan Shimon, who both in public and behind the scenes has been a tireless worker and a great advocate for the ENEA. His leadership during the pandemic was exemplary and helped to keep our Association moving forward successfully under difficult circumstances. I would also like to thank other outgoing Officers for their service, particularly our past-Secretary Dr. Maria Chiara Zatelli, who is becoming a leader in our field in her own right. It is exciting to welcome the newly elected Officers of the Board, Dr. Federico Gatto, Dr. Luciana Naves, Dr. Manuel Gahete, and Dr. Josanne Vassallo. Together with our hard-working Treasurer, Dr. Patrick Petrossians, the President-Elect, Dr. Davide Carvalho and our dynamic new ENEA Secretary, Dr. Krystallenia Alexandraki, their combined energy and talent will drive our Association forward over the coming years.
The ENEA has a bright future. We need to look no further than our recent experiences during our 20th Congress in Lyon, France. While we were all delighted to see each other in person again, the quality of the science and the depth and breadth of the program were exemplary by any standard. Congratulations to the Program Organising Committee chaired by Dr. Marily Theodoropoulou and Dr. Andrea Isidori for their rigor and imagination. We are also especially grateful to the Chair of the Local Organising Committee, Dr. Gerald Raverot for being such a superb “Master of Ceremonies” during the Congress. The updates on the ENEA studies that were presented during the ENEA meeting confirmed the tight scientific links among the ENEA membership. It was particularly important to see the major contribution made by the EYRC to the running and content of the 20th Congress. Their energy and scientific accomplishments are a guarantee of success for the ENEA in the coming years. During my Presidency, I will work to make sure that these talented young women and men continue to take on their deserved leadership roles in the ENEA.
As it has been a scientific home to me, I want the ENEA to be a home to all of Members, from the young physicians and scientists in training, through to senior experts in clinical care and laboratory research. We are an Association working across Europe and beyond for the advancement of our fascinating sub-specialty. I am confident that the ENEA will continue to have a constructive, collaborative, and friendly relationship with larger partner organisations, like the ESE. Working together in a complimentary fashion will allow us to assist and support one another for our mutual benefit.
It is with great pleasure that I look forward to meeting with you at our forthcoming ENEA Workshop in Munich, Germany in 2023, and at the 2024 ENEA Congress in Seville, Spain, for which preparations are well underway.
My warmest personal regards,
Albert BECKERS
President
